Holiday Fun Close to Home

With the winter months upon us, many of you are planning to take a family a vacation. Luckily, you do not have to look far for fun diversions and entertainment to enjoy this season. The greater Cleveland area is host to many family-friendly attractions this time of year, and I encourage you to take advantage of the vibrant community life located in your own backyard. To this end, I would like to tell you about a few of these inexpensive, unique opportunities.

To help you and your family get in the holiday spirit, I recommend you visit the Winter Show at the Cleveland Botanical Garden. Located in University Circle, the Botanical Garden’s lush beauty is worth a trip any time of the year, but especially around the holidays. The Winter Show runs November 20th to January 2nd, so there is plenty of time to take in the atmosphere full of twinkling trees, a gingerbread display and yummy café treats. After you explore the gardens, take the opportunity to go ice skating on the Wade Oval rink, conveniently adjacent to the Botanical Gardens.

If your family is eager to explore Cuyahoga County’s winter wonderland, then visiting the Chalet Toboggan Chutes in Strongsville is the perfect activity for you. Part of the Cleveland MetroParks, these are the only public toboggan chutes in the state. You will be sure to enjoy the winter weather as you ride down the 700-foot-long chutes. When your family has had enough of the crisp air, you can escape the cold in the chalet next to the chutes, where you can warm up in front of the fireplace with some treats from the snack bar. The chalet also has a large screen TV and video games, ensuring that there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Along with these and other seasonal attractions, don’t forget about all that Cleveland has to offer year-round. Winter is a great time to take the whole family to visit the Cleveland Zoo or the Great Lakes Science Center. Northeast Ohio also has many exciting cultural attractions, such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and Cleveland’s Museum of Natural History. With all of these fun activities to choose from, there never has to be a dull moment in your downtime this winter. I hope that these suggestions will give you new ways to enjoy this special time of year with your loved ones. From my family to yours, have a safe and joyful holiday season!
