COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today the Sherrod Brown campaign launched "Hispanics for Sherrod," a group supporting U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown's reelection because of his job creation efforts, backing of the auto rescue and tireless work to make college more affordable. The group will mobilize support for Sherrod, advise the campaign on issues critical to Hispanics and speak across the state about Sherrod’s work to support the Hispanic community. State Representative Dan Ramos (D-Lorain) and Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez will serve as co-chairs.
"The Hispanic community has no greater friend than Senator Sherrod Brown,” said Rep. Dan Ramos and Anita Lopez. “When Ohio's auto workers faced uncertainty, Sherrod fought to rescue their jobs and support General Motors and Chrysler. He also sponsored legislation to strengthen business incubators, which are helping to create thousands of jobs across Ohio. Sherrod has fought to make college more affordable for Ohio students. He voted for the largest increase in student aid since the G.I. Bill and supported legislation to freeze student loan rates. We are proud to have Sherrod represent the Hispanic community and will work from now until November to make sure he is reelected.”
“I am deeply honored to have the support of Dan, Anita and the Hispanic community throughout Ohio,” Sherrod said. “Ohioans deserve good paying jobs, access to quality affordable education and a secure future for our families. As long as I am in the U.S. Senate, I will do everything I can to create jobs and make college more affordable for every Ohioan.”
The launch of “Hispanics for Sherrod” will be accompanied by a new Facebook page and a section of the web site to keep the community up-to-date on campaign issues and news. Join the “Hispanics for Sherrod” Facebook page by clicking HERE.
Senator Sherrod Brown is fighting every day to make the United States a better place for the Hispanic community. Sherrod championed the auto rescue and other job creation efforts such as business incubators and increased funding for infrastructure projects. With the cost of college rising every year, Senator Brown has also worked to make college more affordable for our students, and is a supporter of the DREAM Act which would allow children of immigrant parents brought to the United States to stay if they have been admitted to a U.S. college or enlisted in the military and met other requirements. The Hispanic community knows Senator Sherrod Brown is on their side and will continue fighting for them.
